01 / THE PROBLEM TO SOLVE
The bill is only
part of the job.
A salon billing workflow involves more than entering a total. The application needs to connect selected services, customer details, membership eligibility, payment methods, and the staff delivering those services.
I designed Newbilling around that connected workflow, with a service catalogue feeding into bills and saved transactions feeding into reports.

Customers & memberships
Manage walk-in customers and members, look up customer details, track membership renewals, and apply eligible membership offers.
Services & staff
Maintain service prices and availability, manage staff records, and connect staff assignments to the billing workflow.
Business reports
Review daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly activity, including service sales, membership renewals, payment breakdowns, taxes, and discounts.
03 / INSIDE THE BUILD

Careful business logic.
Keep calculations on the server
Rails validates service items, quantities, customer ownership, discounts, and membership eligibility before saving a bill. The interface helps enter the data; the server checks the business rules.
Preserve the details of saved bills
Bill items retain service names and prices so a later catalogue price change does not silently rewrite the original transaction.
Connect reports to saved transactions
Reports combine bills and membership renewals for the selected period, using the Asia/Kolkata time zone to group activity.

The finished application connects billing, customer records, memberships, staff, and reporting behind a signed-in workspace. This case study describes the implemented features; customer adoption and time-saving metrics have not been measured.
